Borrowing

Once you have signed up for a library card, you can borrow regular library items.

You can browse our online catalog at home or at the library. Please note: select Library Search from the top left drop down menu to see only physical books in our collection.

You may borrow a maximum of 15 items on your card, with certain item types having lower limits. Loan periods vary depending on the item type. See the above table.

Reference works, local history materials, including microfilms, and newspapers are available for in-library use only and are not available for loan.

Children are entitled to borrowing privileges with open and ready access to materials provided at the library. Parents and legal guardians are responsible for monitoring and limiting the use of materials by their children. Only patrons 18 or older will be entitled to materials rated “R”, “18A”, “Mature Content”, “Explicit Content” or other industry labels indicating that they are exclusively intended for an adult audience.

Items designated for in-library use, such as board games and electronic devices, may be checked out to patrons with library cards but may not be removed from the premises.

Only adult library members in good standing, with a minimum six-month borrowing history will be eligible to borrow equipment.

You can reserve regular library items in person, by telephone, or by catalogue access in the library or remotely. Staff will call you when items are ready for pick up (please ensure your phone number is up-to-date).

Items will be held for 5 days except for DVDs and equipment which will be held for 2 days.

Need more time with your current book? Didn’t get to finish that movie yet? Regular library items can be renewed by contacting the library or through your account on our online catalog. Items on reserve for other members cannot be renewed. Items may be renewed beyond the number of times listed in the table at the discretion of staff, if the item is not reserved for another user.

Regular library items are required to be returned on or before their due date. Regular library items may be returned in-library to the circulation desk or in the designated drop box located at the door off the library parking lot.

See Equipment return information here.

Regular library items not returned by the due date are considered overdue and are subject to overdue fines as outlined in the above table.

A cap of $30.00 will apply to a group of overdue media materials returned at the same time to avoid undue hardship for library patrons.

Library cards are suspended when fines exceed $20.00 and will be re-instated when all outstanding accounts are settled.

The library board establishes fines as a deterrent to the late return of materials. Fines may be waived for unsual or serious circumstances.

The library will charge replacement costs for media items which are overdue by 60 days or for items which are damaged or lost. Replacement of the item will be left to the discretion of the CEO/Librarian, in keeping with the library’s selection policy. The replacement cost will be assessed by the library and will include the purchase cost and the processing cost of the item. Charges will be levied based on the cost of a substitute item or the current average price of materials if an item is not replaced.
