Interlibrary loan service is currently unavailable due to the ongoing Canada Post Strike.
If you cannot find a book you want at NEMI Public Library, we would be happy to try borrowing it from another library in Ontario for you through Interlibrary Loans (ILL).
Interlibrary loans are available to NEMI Library patrons with memberships in good standing. You may request up to 3 titles at a time. You will be notified by phone when your item has arrived at our library and is available for pick up. Please ensure we have an up-to-date phone number. Your item will be held behind the desk for you for one week from the day we call, at which point it will be returned to the lending library.
How can I request an Interlibrary Loan?
Once you are sure NEMI Library does not have the item in its collection, you can make your request in person at the library, by calling 705-368-2444 or by filling out the form below.
How long does it take to get the book through ILL?
It varies between 1 week and 4 or more weeks for a book to arrive, with most books arriving within 1 to 2 weeks of request.
How long can I borrow an interlibrary loan book?
Typically the lending period is 3-4 weeks but how long you can keep an interlibrary loan depends. Different lending libraries set different lending periods. And sometimes it takes a book a long time to arrive and it needs to be returned relatively shortly after it is received.
Can I renew it?
Only on rare occasions is renewal possible. We ask that you make it a priority to finish and return interlibrary loan books by their due dates.
Why couldn’t I get the item I wanted through Interlibrary loan?
Not all materials are available through ILL. It is up to individual lending libraries to decide if they will lend certain materials.
The following items are not available through ILL:
- DVDs
- Reference Materials
- Magazines
- Audiovisual Materials
- Books published within the last year
How much does it cost?
There is no charge for interlibrary loans for NEMI Library members in good standing. However, patrons are responsible for any late fees or replacement costs to the lending library on items borrowed through ILL.
Can the library order books for our book club?
Yes, book club members who are NEMI Library members in good standing can request their own copy of the book and are responsible for that copy.

Please ensure that the titles you are requesting are not available at NEMI Public Library by searching for them on our online catalog before completing the form below. To view results for physical books only, select Library Search on the first drop down box on the left. You may place a hold on books that are currently checked out via the online catalog. Interlibrary loan requests for books in our collection will not be processed with the exception of book club selections.
There is a limit of 3 active interlibrary loans per member. If you already have active interlibrary loan requests, we will prioritize your requests in the order they are listed below. You are responsible for re-requesting any books that do not get requested because the limit has been met.
